Welcome the Irregulars

One of the things that really irritates me about politics is how things are painted in a very left or right light. You are either Democrat or Republican, Conservative or Liberal, Right Wing or Left Wing. I happen to think that it takes both wings for the Eagle to soar.

I call myself an irregular. I know many would say you are an independent, but I don't happen to think so. If you must agree with xyz to be on one side and abc on the other and independents are well independent of everyone else. Then I must be irregular. I don't fit into any of these categories. I also do not like to be told I am in the middle of the road. To me this would indicate that I am unable to make up my mind. to the contrary I am very decisive about things. So if I am not like regular people I must be irregular.

Of course I get some pretty strange looks when the conversation turns to politics and everyone is proclaiming their affiliations. "I am a democrat", "I am a Republican", "I have gone Green" and I reply " I'm irregular".

What about you are you regular?

Some further fodder for the furnace: Who should an irregular person vote for?

From my prospective, it seems my choices are a former US military officer and pilot or a former lawyer(Hillary and Barack were both lawyers). Hmmmm

Aliens do count

Here in the US you get to vote too. I will save my theological musing for another blog post. They question remains if your view point doesn't fit a candidates view how do you vote? or As a Christian how would you vote and why?

Do Aliens Count?

I'm an alien in this world. I belong to the Kingdom of God the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ. My stay here is temporary. I'll admit I'm using your site as a platform to spread the news of the return of the King of kings. When that day arrives there will be only one court to please, only one set of rules to be upheld. I will have to stand before the risen Jesus Christ, and account for my life. I believe everyone will be held accountable. I believe that many will say "Lord, Lord" and Jesus will have to say "I never knew you." I am counting on the fact that Jesus did what he said he would do, which is pay the price for my transgressions. I will do my best in the mean time to love the Lord my God with all my heart, soul and might and love my neighbor just as I love my self. Should I find myself not upholding those two commands, I will repent. What is right and just according to congress will not impact my eternity. Should congress impose religious beliefs on the people. No, absolutely not. Should they pass a law that gives people the right or denies people the right to behave behind doors as they want? Which is greater? Gods law or man's? People will do as their hearts lead them. Whether, the law is related to substance abuse or unnatural relations or whatever. If a man wants to live with a man, only they and God know their motives. God will judge everyone according to his standard not the Constitution of your country. I would much rather see a nation truly under the rule of God with only two commands "1.) Love the Lord your God" and "2.) Love your neighbor as yourself" (in that order) vs. a country with the most thoughtfully crafted set of rules. If everyone would made efforts to follow God's two commands in the order he gave them, none of this would be an issue. All that said, The Father says he loves everyone. Jesus still shows love to those who are breaking the Father's laws. I love you even if you think I'm crazy. We should love the people in our government and ask God to bless them with wisdom and hope they find peace with God. We should love those that would ask congress for special laws and ask God to bless them with a love for others and hope they find peace with God. If it were all in my hands alone, I wouldn't get very far running this country. May God's peace be with you and your house and your country. May He richly bless you with treasures that last throughout eternity.

Separation of Church and State

Justin, I comprehend your argument, however, I don't think there is so much a question of judgment of others but of making political decisions based on religious belief. While I may or may not agree with a position on my own moral grounds the real question is in the legality and spirit of the constitution in guaranteeing the rights of the individual. I would offer the example of same sex marriage. While I am not in agreement with the concept, (not religiously based either, simply unnatural and unhealthy) I do not see any reason to vote for a law that makes it illegal.

The idea is that my own moral issues are mine own to deal with. I would not want others to impose their personal morals or religious beliefs on me. There is a popular myth propagated that the US is a Christian nation founded by Christians. The truth is many of the founding fathers were not committed to Christian belief and were seeking to construct a government that would not be dominated by one religion. they had escaped this in Europe. This was the reason for defining individual rights that were not tethered to religious belief and a separation of church and state. So when I vote on an issue there may be a difference in my personal position and my political position.

I think John McCain is the only candidate that understands this and that is why he is often at odds with conservatives. He sometimes talks about doing things that they do not agree with, however, they don't understand that he may not even agree personally, but knows that it is in the best interest of the country and in line with what this nation was setup to be.

Political Affiliation or Not

In one manner of thinking I could be liberal and in another I could be independent and even in another I am conservative. I have no problem following others as long as their motives are pure and wisdom is exercised. I think the right party should have faith in God liberally, for example:"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight". (Proverbs 3:5,6) To me the words "all your heart" is a very liberal portion. I think the right party should judge others conservatively, for example: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1,2). Lastly, I think the right party should seek God through Jesus independently, for example " Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). There is no other way to the Father. Seeking God should be done through Christ, independent of any religion, race, creed, political power or any imaginable thought that would try to place itself between you and Jesus Christ.
